aubade
bed on the screened porch
sun through leaves and
birds in the morning
something outside time this was
your skin smooth
eyes deep wood and water
my skirt on the chair
sandals waiting
your voice as I dress
white roses
again you have surprised me.
twenty five white roses
in a large clear vase
in the white room,
center petals so pale a pink,
almost missed.
how many years have you
filled my life with roses,
the fine white velvet of
your love,
the soft pink at the center
of night?
in this rose light
time's door does not close
