extractions
here is the gleam of chrome
the sneer of stainless hardened steel
about my wrists,
my waist held gently
by the marshal’s chain
my feet stutter the dance
of the prisoner’s song.
alas, who cares?
I am linked to you
as this poem is linked
to me here in this
dental chair
linked somehow
to every torturer’s dungeon
in every age & time
two teeth must come out
bone ripping from bone
while all about me rips
and tears the dance
of madness misunderstood
I open wide
and am torn from my
dream of you
some sound escapes
mugged battered by
Novocain
it was your name
my love
your name!
translate now for me
o drunken muse of
dungeons modern with
all the amenities of
pain negated by
novocain
can you sing still?
I cannot
my lips have thickened
even as your name
come torn and bloody
from the place inside
they cannot find
when they shake me down
this, then is love
battered though it may be
around the crunch
of broken bone
and extracted hope
it still staggers
toward the light so blue
seeking in it’s silly way
to smuggle out
a word
to you
